Final distribution boards (DB)
The final distribution board (DB) feeds the lighting, socket and AC circuits of an apartment, villa or shop. It is defined by the number of ways, the main breaker and the installation location.

Main distribution board (MDB)
The MDB receives the supply from the transformer or meter and distributes it to sub-main boards. Its incomer is usually an ACB or a large MCCB, with MCCB outgoing feeders, busbars, metering and often a surge protective device (SPD).
- Incomer rating and breaking capacity for the fault level.
- Outgoing schedule: number and rating of feeders.
- Metering: amps, volts and energy meter.
Sub-main distribution board (SMDB)
The SMDB is fed from the MDB and distributes to floor or unit DBs, or to large loads such as lifts and pumps. Its incomer is usually an MCCB, with MCCB or MCB outgoing ways depending on the loads.
